Today, I am honored to join climate leaders, lawmakers, activists, and changemakers from across the country as we celebrate the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) passage into law at the White House. This is the first comprehensive climate law in American history — including the largest-ever investment in combating climate change — and it couldn’t come a moment too soon.
At Aclima, we remain committed to creating groundbreaking technology that catalyzes climate action to protect public health, reduce emissions, and deliver clean air for all. In the IRA, we are thrilled to finally see legislation that can accelerate the tangible change Aclima has been working towards for more than a decade. Aclima will continue to work together with the US Government, our Environmental Justice colleagues, and advisors to ensure the challenges facing frontline communities are vocalized and prioritized in this new phase of climate action. Overall, this is a powerful, long-awaited moment for our company and the United States.
Government leaders and researchers estimate that the IRA’s $369 billion in funding for climate and clean energy provisions will cut emissions by ~40 percent by 2030 from 2005 levels. That’s enough to put the US within reach of our previous commitments to the Paris Agreement, but it means even more to our Aclima team as the real possibility of a clean air future is on the horizon — for all Americans.
As we continue our hyperlocal, mobile air quality and greenhouse gas measurement network operations in California and ramp up in places like New York state and other locations across the country, I am filled with hope about this new future. Block by block, we’re putting air pollution and greenhouse gases on the map with data that can now inform historic climate legislative action in cities across the United States.
In this incredible moment, I feel so proud to be an Aclimator and an American.
